About

We are a team of 4 students from Durham Uni who are going to cycle 1400 miles from Durham to Krakow, Poland to raise money for the breast cancer charity ‘Wear it Pink’.

route-map

The map above shows our approximate route – each of us is planning a section.

Why did you choose a breast cancer charity and why Poland?

It is an important cause for two members of the team, who have friends and relatives who sadly developed the disease.

Fraz – The idea was conceived in its present manner at the beginning of October 2009 but had been on my mind for many months before. In the summer of 2007 I lost my mother to this disease and the impact it had on my life and those nearest to her, family and friends, are still fresh in the memory. This cycle ride is seen as a two fold opportunity primarily to raise as much money for a cause that whole-heartedly aims to eradicate this disease, as well as remembering, personally, a very special person.

Where will you stay on the route?

We will bring basic camping gear for the odd night of camping. However, for the most part, we are planning on using hostels and couchsurfing (see link for more info). Whilst in the UK, we’ll obviously try and find contacts along the route and pitch up a tent in their garden!

What equipment are you using?

Touring bikes, panniers and lots of spare inner tubes. We’ll add details of our bikes in due course!

How can I donate?

We’ve set up an account on justgiving.com which manages the donations. Click on the image below to see this page. All money donated via justgiving will go directly to the charity Wear it Pink.
